What’s Floating Around Us in November 2019?

November already #eventprofs and we continue to be a busy bunch here at Cloud 9. Janet and Paula have just returned from a fabulous fam with Okura Hotels to Amsterdam. This amazing hotel is rooted in the art of Japanese service and offers peaceful luxury in Amsterdam, just 15 minutes from Schiphol International Airport. A member of The Leading Hotels of the World in the cosmopolitan De Pijp neighbourhood, the spacious rooms are really spectacular and gaze over the Amsterdam skyline for unparalleled city views.

With four restaurants, and 3 Michelin stars, we had a fantastic experience on Saturday evening with an exclusive at the Chefs Table in the Ciel Bleu restaurant.  Soaring above Amsterdam’s rooftops, this is a stunning space and we were lucky enough to meet the head chefs team of Onno Kokmeijer and Arjan Speelman, who are inspired by the wishes of international guests and are constantly looking for the best ingredients and innovative cooking methods.

After a taster menu of starters it was on to the Ballroom for a huge surprise, a table set for six in the midle of this grand space – truly memorable – and then into the Lobby for dessert which was an amazing Bento Box full of delicious treats. Mouth-watering delights such as apple-blackberry tartelette, a pecan-chocolate macaron and a matcha-chestnut-yuzu roulade is just a sample of the fabulous array we were served. We then had time to enjoy a nightcap in the executive lounge and then one for the road in the wonderful Twenty Third Bar which has spectacular view over Amsterdam at 78 meter height. International guests will find themselves getting to know the city by tasting the menu, while those growing up in Amsterdam will find cocktails bringing back childhood memories. Guests who know all the ins and outs of the city will recognize many elements in the menu. Using home-made syrups and purées give the cocktails even a more unique experience.

As if we hadn’t been spoilt enough on the Saturday, lunch on Sunday was in the first traditional Japanese restaurant in Europe to be awarded a Michelin star. The acclaimed multi-course experience at the Yamazato Restaurant, serves the authentic Japanese haute cuisine called kaiseki ryori. In addition to the à la carte menu and the sushi menu, Yamazato serves three different kaiseki menus…

We also got to see the Taste of Okura, where those with a passion for cooking, can unlock a new-found skill, as Chef de Cuisine Louise O’Hare guides groups through preparing a menu in the state of the art cookery space. Taste of Okura is perfect for small groups of up to 18 people. You can participate in one of our individual workshops, where you will cook with ingredients of the season. It is also possible to organize your own workshop and bring your friends or colleagues for an unforgettable experience.

It wasn’t all eating though (although our waist sizes were considerably expanded) as we also enjoy a Canal Cruise, a visit to the Apollo Hotel and Harbour Club for lunch, and an amazing expeience at the new attraction This is Holland. You can see, feel, learn and experience the Netherlands in just one hour, and enjoy a unique flying experience, soaring over the Dutch must‐see locations. Fly like a bird and marvel at the diversity, beauty and richness of the Netherlands. It’s really well worth a visit and is a must for any incentive groups.
